The Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments asked priests to take special anti-COVID-19 precautions this year when distributing ashes on Ash Wednesday. This includes sprinkling ashes on the top of parishioner's heads rather than using them to make a cross on their foreheads. Sprinkling ashes on the top of people's heads is the customary practice at the Vatican and in Italy. Given the spread of the coronavirus, the practice has the advantage of not requiring the priest to touch multiple people. At Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, and throughout the Diocese of Phoenix we will be following these precautions at all our Ash Wednesday Masses.

We are still at a 35% capacity in the Cathedral per the Diocesan guidelines. We are allowed 230 participants at each Mass, so please arrive early.

This Saturday, February 13^th at 9:30 am, there is an informational meeting in Smith Hall about our new Apostolate, Salt and Light. Any parishioner that feels called to neighborhood ministry and helping victims of human trafficking should come to learn more about this Apostolate. Doug Small will share his plan of outreach and taking action in the surrounding neighborhoods of Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral.
